DESTINY CHURCH

Our History

Destiny Church was organized during the summer of 2004 after a series of prayer meetings led by Rev. Dr. Emil M. Thomas (former Pastor of Destiny Church).  The new church was born with biblical faith, Baptist flavor, and spiritual freedom.

Destiny held its first worship service at 8:00am on Sunday, August 1, 2004, at Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church (MMBC) in Northeast Washington, DC.  The first sermon was preached by Pastor Thomas and was titled, “Get Excited about your Destiny!” from Jeremiah 29:11. The first three people to unite with Destiny Church was Deaconess Loretta Norris, Sister Angela Whicker, and Sister Clara Turner.

Along the way, Destiny has been a “church without walls”, worshiping at various sites in various cities as God has ordered our steps. After the initial service at MMBC, regular services were held in the auditorium of Kelly Miller Middle School in Washington, DC.  Our time here was brief and we relocated to the Nyumburu Cultural Center on the campus of the University of Maryland in College Park, MD.  While here, souls were added to the church as Destiny engaged in community outreach and held community-wide celebrations like “Jazz for Jesus” Christmas concerts and “Spring Sing for the King” musicals. We relocated once again and spent a brief period at Maranatha Seventh Day Adventist Church in Beltsville, MD. In April 2011, Destiny Church traveled south to Charles County, MD, and began worshiping at William Diggs Elementary School in Waldorf, MD.

During the summer of 2014, Pastor Thomas was blessed by God with a new opportunity and he, along with this family, relocated to Palo Alto, CA.  The “passing of the baton” occurred and Rev. Gary Walsh, Jr. became Destiny’s second Pastor.

Within the next two years, Destiny relocated once again.  On April 10, 2016, Destiny Church held its first worship service at its new location:  Holy Sanctuary Church in Waldorf, MD.

God has truly blessed Pastor G, First Lady Valencia and their “Sons of Thunder” Chancellor and Chaise!  We continue to grow from the inside out according to God’s Word, God’s Will and God’s Way!
